Muhammad Eid Hammad Shabir was born in Khan Yunis, Gaza District, on March 28, 1946. He is married and has six children. He completed his primary and secondary education in Khan Yunis, graduating from high school in 1964. He earned a bachelor's degree in pharmacy from Alexandria University in 1968, a master's degree in medical analysis from Alexandria University, and a doctorate in microbiology from West Virginia University.
He also holds a diploma in medical analysis from Cairo University. He worked as a lecturer at the Islamic University, then as an assistant professor in the Department of Medical Analysis at the Faculty of Science. He then progressed through academic and administrative positions, where he was appointed Head of the Department of Medical Analysis, then Dean of the Faculty of Science. He was appointed President of the University in 1993 until his retirement in August 2005.
Shabir comes from a religious family. His father was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood in the Gaza Strip, but he has never been affiliated with any political organization, despite his close ties to Hamas. He was a prominent candidate to head the Palestinian unity government in 2007.
Shabir was active in both professional and academic work. He established the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences at the Islamic University, contributed to the launch of the Master's Program in Medical Analysis, and was a member of the American Society for Microbiology and the Council of Higher Education from 1993 to 2005.
Shabir has contributed to numerous scientific research papers and articles in the field of medical analysis and microbial contamination, and has participated in numerous scientific conferences in the same field. He is considered one of the most prominent academic figures in the Gaza Strip.
