Ahmed Nassim Barqawi (29 April 1950) was a Syrian philosopher, university professor, thinker, critic, writer, researcher, and poet of Palestinian parents. He was born in the Syrian town of Al-Hameh to a family from the Palestinian city of Tulkarm.

Ahmad Nasim Barqawi was born on April 29, 1950 in the town of Al-Hameh, west of Damascus, to a Palestinian family from the city of Tulkarm. His family had gone to Syria to spend time pending the end of the 1948 war, and they ended up refugees in the end.

 

scientific life

Ahmed Al-Barqawi lived in Damascus and studied at its university. He was the head of the philosophy department at the Faculty of Arts at Damascus University, and was also the vice-president of the Arab Philosophical Union. In 1980 he obtained a master's degree, then a doctorate in philosophy from St. Petersburg Russian University. He worked as a lecturer at the University of Damascus before his appointment for two and a half years, then became a member of the faculty in 1983. He became head of the Philosophy Department from 1995 until 1999, and he holds a professor's degree. He worked as a teacher and lecturer in several Syrian and Arab universities, participated in dozens of philosophical conferences and seminars, wrote articles and studies in several Arab newspapers and magazines, and had a weekly column in the official Syrian newspaper, Al-Thawra.

 

He participated in the Syrian events in 2011, and a decision was issued to dismiss him from the university on April 9, 2014 by the Syrian Prime Minister, Wael al-Halqi, and to deprive him of his pension rights. He now resides in Dubai.

At the beginning of 1993, Barqawi met with Ali Salem Al-Beidh, Secretary-General of the Yemeni Socialist Party and President of the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen in the Yemeni city of Aden, with a group of Arab professors, including the Syrian Dr. Tayeb Tizini, Dr. Khader Zakaria, the Sudanese Dr. Abd al-Salam Nur al-Din, the Iraqi thinker Namir Mahdi al-Ani and Dr. The Sudanese Abd al-Shafi Siddiq, where he hosted them for a dinner in the Presidency House, accompanied by the then President of the University of Aden, Dr. Salih Ali Basra, to discuss Yemeni affairs in the Ma’ashiq Palace, which is the palace overlooking the Gulf of Aden, where Dr. Al-Barqawi’s position was with reconciliation and preserving a unified Yemen.

 

Also among the important situations was the presence of the French philosopher Jacques Derrida in Cairo, when Dr. Ahmed Barqawi was spending his sabbatical at Cairo University. They were brought together by a philosophical symposium, where Jacques Derrida presented at the invitation of the Supreme Council of Culture in Egypt and the French Cultural Center in Cairo. The symposium was titled Jacques Derrida and Deconstruction. In it, Derrida talked about his philosophical experience, and Dr. Ahmed Barqawi spoke to him with a high philosophical opinion.
