Information

Yousef Sayegh was born in Al-Bassa, near Acre (Akka) in 1916. Sayegh received his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the American University of Beirut (AUB) in 1938, he worked as tutor at the American School in Sidon (1929-1934); as a tutor in Iraq (1939), he then returned to Palestine after one year and worked there as assistant general manager in a company near Tiberias; served as Tiberias Hotel Manager for one year. He worked as head of "Saba" Co. in Jerusalem. 

Sayegh was arrested in 1948, released after one year. Moved to Beirut and worked as an accountant in a forwarding Co. until the end of 1960 when he moved to work at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). Sayegh obtained his Master's degree from the American University of Beirut in 1952, started to work as a researcher at the (AUB), later became an assistant professor.

In 1955, he recievd his Doctoral degree in Economy from the United States. Sayegh worked at Harvard University and Princeton University (1959-1961). He authored a book entitled "Bread With Dignity". In 1964, Yousef was one of the first Palestinian National Council's members, which was held in Jerusalem in May; became a member of the Palestine Liberation Organization's Executive Committee in 1968; co-founder and head of the Palestinian Planning Center until 1971, director of the Palestinian National Fund and a member of its executive committee 1971-1974.

Yousef Sayegh died on 11 May 2004, at the age of 88 years old.
