He was born in Jerusalem in 1930. He studied in schools in Jerusalem, Gaza, and Nazareth due to his father's frequent relocations as a Sharia judge in these cities. He completed his studies in Egypt and received his advanced degree from the Faculty of Sharia at Al-Azhar University in 1955. He worked in education from 1955 to 1983. He also worked as a translator, editor, and writer for the newspapers Falastin, Al-Quds, Al-Anbaa, Al-Fajr, Al-Nahar, Al-Shaab, Al-Usbu' Al-Jadeed, and Al-Hayat Al-Jadida. His writings focused on democracy, human rights, gender equality, restoring women's human and social rights, amending personal status laws, abolishing polygamy, and restricting the right to divorce.
