Issa Rufa Al-Sifri (1949-1894) Palestinian historian, journalist and writer.

 

Origin and career

Al-Sefri was born in the city of Ramla, where he received his primary education, and completed the rest of his studies in the city of Jaffa. At the beginning of his career, he worked as a teacher in public schools before devoting himself to journalistic work in the Palestine newspaper for its companions, Issa Al-Issa, and then as an editor for it. He used the newspaper as a platform to express his expressions. His political views against Zionist policies, in addition to warning of the repercussions of the Zionist plans at the time. Then he moved to establish his own library and printing press in Jaffa, which occupied a space in the seminars of writers, until the British authorities arrested him in Al-Mazraa prison in Akka for three months.

 

After the Nakba occurred in 1948, Al-Sifri moved from the city of Jaffa to the city of Al-Salt in Jordan, where he stayed for a whole year, then moved to the Jordanian city of Amman, to be the city where he died in 1949 due to a heart attack.
