Rashad Abu Sakhila ( August 10, 2001 – September 2 , 2024 ) was a Palestinian artist born in Jabalia camp in the Gaza Strip in Palestine . He died in a bombing that targeted the shelter center at Al-Fakhoura School in the Gaza Strip. 

Origin and education

Rashad Abu Sakhila was born on August 10, 2001, in Jabalia camp in the Gaza Strip. He studied journalism and media at Al-Aqsa University in Gaza.

Artistic career

In 2022, he starred in the Palestinian drama series “ Qabdat Al-Ahrar ,” a thirty-episode series based on true stories that highlight the conflict between the Palestinian resistance and Israeli intelligence services. In an interview with Sputnik Russia, Rashad said  that the series was a kind of dramatic response to the Israeli series “Fauda,” which attempted to criminalize the Palestinian people and show Israeli intelligence infiltrations within Palestinian society. The plot of the series focused on the superiority of Palestinian resistance intelligence.

The series, which was funded by the Algerian Baraka Association, was shown on more than 32 Arab TV channels, translated into English and dubbed into Turkish, and won awards in Palestine and Algeria , including the Best Drama Series Award at the Jerusalem International Media Festival, and an appreciation award from the Algerian Baraka Association for the artists participating in the series.

Literature and poetry

In addition to acting, Rashad Abu Sakhila was a poet. In 2020, he published a poetry collection titled “Letters of Soil,” becoming the youngest Palestinian poet to publish a collection.  The collection included 27 poems that dealt with various topics such as the homeland, societal, emotional, spiritual, and religious issues. Rashad explained that the title of the collection was inspired by a poem within it that carries great national meanings.

Death

Rashad Abu Sakhila died on September 2, 2024, in a bombing that targeted the shelter center at Al-Fakhoura School in the Gaza Strip.
