His upbringing and life
Bassam Lutfi Suleiman Abu Ghazaleh was born in the Palestinian city of Tulkarm in the West Bank on January 1, 1940. He received his primary education in the schools of his city of Tulkarm, where he studied at the Al-Fadhilah Historical School in the city, and his father Lutfi Abu Ghazaleh worked as a teacher in the city’s schools.

When the 1948 war occurred, the Arab Salvation Army arrived from Syria to Palestine, and the army took its headquarters in the city of Tulkarm, and the city witnessed great battles in which Syrian and Arab soldiers were injured during their defense of the city, which necessitated the establishment of a field hospital in the city by the people. Bassam Lutfi's mother founded the hospital with the women of her city. She also volunteered to cook food for the wounded soldiers. When the Salvation Army withdrew, Bassam Lutfi's family moved with them to Syria, hoping to return to the city of Tulkarm after about a month, and from there Bassam Lutfi began his artistic and theatrical activities in Damascus in 1957. Where he began presenting his first theatrical and artistic works, and contributed to the establishment of a number of Syrian art institutions, such as the Arab Youth Club, the Syrian National Theatre, the Syrian Military Theatre, and the Palestinian National Theatre.

Bassam Lutfi returned to the city of Tulkarm for a period of time, in 1967 before the setback war, and in June 1967, Israel occupied the West Bank.
