Abdul-Azim Hussein Abdul-Qader Salhab was born in Hebron in 1946. He is married and has a daughter. He studied primary school at the Ibrahimiyya School in Hebron, and secondary school at Al-Hussein Bin Ali Secondary School, from which he obtained his high school diploma in the scientific branch in 1964. He obtained a bachelor's degree in Sharia from the College of Sharia in Amman in 1968. He worked as an employee in the Sharia courts, and was the head of the clerks of the Sharia Court in Jerusalem, then a Sharia judge in the cities of Jericho, Nablus, Hebron and Jerusalem, then a member of the Sharia Court of Appeal, and acting Chief Justice in Jerusalem starting in 1998, and Assistant Secretary-General for West Bank Affairs and the Ministry of Endowments, Islamic Affairs and Holy Places in Jordan in 1989, and Assistant Secretary-General for Jerusalem Affairs. He was a member of the Waqf Council in Jerusalem for successive terms and then became its chairman.
Salhab was active in the field of social and educational service in Jerusalem and its surroundings. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the College of Da’wah and Fundamentals of Religion in Jerusalem, then its chairman, a member of the Board of Trustees of the College of Science and Technology in Abu Dis, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Institute School in Abu Dis, a member of the Board of Trustees of Al-Quds University, and deputy head of the Supreme Islamic Authority in Jerusalem. He participated in the founding of the Association of the Committee of Islamic Sciences and Culture, which supervises the Al-Iman Schools in Jerusalem, and became its chairman in 1993. He was interested in the restoration of Al-Aqsa Mosque and defending it against attempts to Judaize it. He cooperated with the Islamic Waqf Department and the Reconstruction Committee, and participated in planning and implementing a number of projects such as paving the Marwani Mosque and the old Al-Aqsa Mosque, paving many areas in Al-Aqsa Mosque, restoring the rooms, domes, minarets and schools surrounding Al-Aqsa Mosque, and establishing public facilities.
