Muawiya Ali Amin Al-Masri was born in Nablus on February 3, 1944. He is married and has a daughter. He studied primary school at Al-Amiriya and Al-Jahiz schools, and secondary school at An-Najah Secondary College, from which he obtained his high school diploma in the science stream in 1963. He earned a bachelor's degree in medicine from Ain Shams University in Egypt in 1971, and a master's degree in internal medicine from the same university in 1976. He worked in a medical clinic in Saudi Arabia, then at Sakaka Hospital for five years, then in Kuwait with the Kuwaiti Army's military medical services at the military hospital until 1985, and then at Al-Tadhamun Medical Hospital until 1996.
From his early youth, he was influenced by Nasserist nationalist thought and became involved in charitable work, where he contributed to the construction of the Solidarity Charitable Medical Clinic in Nablus in 1984. He then served as a member of the Nablus Zakat Committee between 1986 and 2007. After that, his efforts were focused on working within the administrative body of the Social Center Charitable Association in Nablus, which is active in the relief and cultural fields, and he has headed its administrative body since 2008.
He practiced political work, participated in the Legislative Council elections in 1996 and won, and was a member of a number of committees, including the Oversight and Human Rights Committee, the Political Committee, and the Legal Committee. The occupation hindered his participation in the Council by preventing him more than once from joining the Council session in Gaza. He also ran for the Legislative elections in 2006, but did not win.
Al-Masri opposed the Oslo Accords, classifying them as the most unfair agreement to the Palestinian cause, with no point in it in favor of the Palestinians. He criticized the spread of corruption in the institutions of the Palestinian Authority and was among the group that drafted the famous statement of the twenty in December 1999, in which they demanded an end to corruption in the Palestinian Authority. He refused to withdraw the statement, and days later he was attacked in front of his house and shot by three masked men. Al-Masri considered the incident a threatening message to stop his opposition to the policies of the Authority.
Al-Masri believes that the current weakness of the Palestinian cause offers promising signs for the future, as it is one of the most just causes. The problem, however, lies in who currently represents it, and any change in this regard will strengthen its position. He believes that the political division is a negative phase with a significant impact on the Palestinian national situation, and that ending this division is impossible while external interference persists. Therefore, the only viable solution is to hold comprehensive and successive elections, starting with the legislative elections, then the national elections, and finally the presidential elections. As for resistance in all its forms and with all its tools, he believes it is legitimate and guaranteed by all laws because Palestine is under occupation. He argues that achieving political partnership requires restructuring the Palestine Liberation Organization and holding national elections.
