Информация

Taher Al-Fityani (1910-1971) was a journalist , politician and teacher born in Jerusalem . His family originated in Mecca and had branches in Mecca, Gaza and Nablus . Taher studied at the American University of Beirut , then moved to the American University in Cairo and graduated. He worked in journalism at the Al-Jami’a Al-Arabiya newspaper with its founder and editor-in-chief, Munif Al-Husseini . Taher was the director of the newspaper’s internal department.

His life

Taher Abdul Hamid Al-Fityani was born in the city of Jerusalem. He and his family, including his brothers and their families, lived in the Ottoman School inside the Old City in the ring surrounding the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque . After the British closed the Arab League newspaper in 1936, Taher moved to Iraq to teach in the schools of Baghdad . He worked with the Mufti and the rest of the Palestinian fighters, who gathered there after leaving Syria and Lebanon at the beginning of World War II . The Mufti and his group supported the national government formed by Rashid Ali Al-Kilani and supported by the Four Colonels, and it allied with Nazi Germany in the hope of getting rid of British domination.

Al-Fityani moved with Mustafa Al-Wakil and Musa Al-Husseini to Mosul to set up a new radio station there. This government clashed with the British forces in early May 1941 and what was known as the May Revolution . Tahir married his cousin Adla Sadiq Al-Fityani in 1942, and in early 1943 they had a daughter whom they named Muftiyya. He later had his only son, Abdul Hamid. After returning to Palestine, he worked as an English teacher at the Ibrahimiyya School .

Tahir left Palestine after the Nakba to Egypt , where he worked with Hajj Amin al-Husseini in the Arab Higher Committee for a period of time, then he disagreed with him on political issues, so he moved to work as a cultural attaché at the Pakistani embassy in Cairo, and he died and was buried in 1971 in Cairo.

His political life

Al-Fityani was politically affiliated with the Front of the Two Councils, supporters of Hajj Amin al-Husseini . Al-Fityani participated in the meeting held at the home of Musa Kazim Pasha al-Husseini in Jerusalem after the Jerusalem demonstration that took place on September 13, 1933, and it was decided that the second demonstration would be in Jaffa . When the national government represented by the regular and popular Iraqi forces was defeated by the British forces, and a truce was concluded between the two parties on May 30, 1941, Mufti Amin al-Husseini, Rashid Ali al-Kilani and the four colonels were forced to flee Baghdad. He left Mosul for Syria and from there returned to Palestine.
