Abdul Rahman al-Haj Ibrahim, whose full name is Abdul Rahman Samih Abdul Rahman al-Haj Ibrahim (Abu Samih; February 27, 1958 – January 31 , 2025 ) , was a Palestinian political scientist , professor , thinker , and political historian . He was born and raised in the Palestinian city of Tulkarm . He held several positions, including head of the Ramallah Center for Human Rights Studies , head of the Department of Political Science at Al-Quds University and Birzeit University , and dean of the Faculty of Law and Public Administration at Birzeit University .
His upbringing and practical education
Abdul Rahman Samih Abdul Rahman Al-Haj Ibrahim was born in the city of Tulkarm in the West Bank on February 27 , 1958. He studied at the city's Al-Fadhiliya Historical School and obtained a master's degree in political science from the University of Warsaw in Poland . He then obtained a doctorate in political science and international relations from the same university in the early 1990s .
His name is after his grandfather, “ Abdul Rahman Al-Haj Ibrahim, ” the mayor of Tulkarm from 1905 until 1938 , and his uncle is the Palestinian politician “ Salim Al-Haj Ibrahim ,” one of the most prominent leaders of the Palestinian national movement in the twentieth century .
His professional life
Abdul Rahman Al-Haj Ibrahim worked as a professor of political science at Al-Quds University and held the position of head of the Department of Political Science from 2005 to 2007. He also held other positions at the same university, including associate dean of the Faculty of Arts.
He then worked until his death as a professor of political science and international studies at Birzeit University and at the university's Ibrahim Abu Lughod Institute of International Studies . He previously held several positions at Birzeit University , including head of the Department of Political Science and dean of the Faculty of Law and Public Administration .
Until his death, he also served as President of the Palestinian Academy for Integrity Promotion (Nazaha), President of the Horizon Foundation for Youth Development, and an expert at the Vision Center for Political Development. He also previously served as President of the Ramallah Center for Human Rights Studies , and was succeeded as President of the Center by Iyad Barghouti .
His works
He has many publications and research papers on revolutions and democratic transition in the Arab world , Eastern Europe , Poland , and Egypt , in addition to his participation with many papers in international conferences and events, and he has chaired several sessions in political conferences.

The book “Revolutions and Democratic Transition in the Arab World and Eastern Europe: Poland and Egypt as a Model,” co - authored with Ahmed Musleh, Murad Shaheen, and Lord Habash, was published in 2015.
His death and eulogy
He died on January 31, 2025, in the Arab Consulting Hospital , several days after suffering a severe health crisis during which he remained in the hospital, coinciding with the first days of the major Israeli invasion of the city of Tulkarm . He was mourned by many Palestinian figures and institutions.
On May 27, 2025 , an official memorial service was held for him at Birzeit University to honor his memory and his academic, scientific, and intellectual career.
