Yahya Abdul Raouf Jabr was born in the village of Kafr Saba in the Qalqilya Governorate in 1944. He studied the primary and secondary stages in Qalqilya schools, and obtained his high school diploma from Al-Sa’diyya Secondary School in Qalqilya in 1962. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Arabic from Beirut Arab University in 1967, a master’s degree in Arabic from Cairo University in 1975, and a doctorate in Arabic from the same university in 1977.
He worked as an Arabic language teacher in Saudi schools between (1962-1971), as an Arabic language teacher in Libyan schools, as a lecturer at Benghazi University for five years, as a lecturer at the University of Jordan in Jordan in 1983, as an editor in the cultural supplement of the Jordanian newspaper Sawt Al-Shaab in 1985, as a linguistic expert for the Children’s Television Workshop in the United States of America at the “CTW” network, as a supervisor of the Al-Manahil educational series between (1985-1986), as a lecturer at An-Najah University since 1986, as the director of the Department of Academic Affairs at Al-Quds Open University, as the deputy director of the Directorate of Educational Development at Al-Quds Open University between (1989-1991), as a lecturer at Hebron University between (2004-2005), and as a part-time academic supervisor at Al-Quds Open University for several years.
He provided cultural and scientific consultations to various magazines, including: Qatari Education and Heritage, Al-Manhal, King Abdulaziz Foundation of Saudi Arabia, Libyan Arab Culture, Jordanian Ideas, and others, and supervised a number of master's theses.
He participated in the founding of the Palestinian Arabic Language Academy, the Scientific Society in Palestine, and the World Assembly of Palestinian Academics, and participated in cultural and scientific conferences in Palestine and abroad.
Jabr wrote the literary article, and he has a number of published studies and research papers. He has published twenty-five books, including: A Dictionary of Natural Geographical Terms (1987), Towards New Linguistic Studies and Dimensions (1988), A Dictionary of Jordanian and Palestinian Countries (1991), Palestinian Geographical Names Between Obliteration and Distortion (1995), The Palestinian Arabic Language Academy (1995), The Clear in Morphology (joint, 1995), Adel Zuaiter (1996), A Tour in the Courtyard of Al-Aqsa Mosque (1996), Shawqi Palestine (1999).
He also edited four books: The Tens in the Rare Words of the Language by Abu Omar Al-Zahid (1984), The Tens in the Language by Abu Abdullah Al-Tamimi (1984), The Agreement of Structures and the Divergence of Meanings by Ibn Banin (1985), and The Tanukhian Journey from Zarqa to Qaryat Al-Milh (1985). He has supervised the Palestinian Encyclopedia (a project affiliated with An-Najah University) since 2009. This encyclopedia includes a number of sections covering intellectual and cultural aspects related to Palestine, namely:
Palestinian figures and notables, the Palestinian geographical archive, the Palestinian historical archive, the Khabiyah series, and the Jerusalem Information Bank. More than twenty-two books have been published from the encyclopedia.
He died on September 11, 2023.
