He obtained his PhD from the École Normale Supérieure, Department of Historical and Linguistic Studies / Paris / Sorbonne in 1997 in the antiquities of the ancient East before the classical era. The subject of his thesis was palaces in the Bronze Age.

He teaches at the Higher Institute of Archaeology and also directs the Jerusalem Archaeological Studies Unit.

Research interests focus on the cultural history of Palestine during the Bronze and Iron Ages and trace the various aspects of cultural and civilizational continuity through the study of cultural material in those ages.

He supervised several archaeological excavations, the most important of which are: the excavation of Tell el-Tall/Deir Dibwan from 2003-2007 and excavations in the town of Sebastia from 2008 until the present.
