Khamis Zaqout (born February 6, 1965) is a Palestinian Paralympic athlete .
Personal life
Khamis Zaqout was born in Gaza and has nine children. He was injured in 1992 after falling while working on a construction site in Palestine and has been using a wheelchair ever since. He began his sporting career there, after receiving treatment for several years at a rehabilitation centre in Ramallah , and by 2012 was living in a refugee camp in Khan Younis . In 2011, he was the subject of a documentary produced by the British television channel, which profiled the Paralympic athletes of Gaza .
Sports career
He started practicing swimming and basketball , and became captain of the Palestinian national team, until he approached athletics. He currently trains in a park in Gaza City. He participated in the 1998 World Championships and came in second place in discus throw , fourth in javelin throw, and fifth in shot put . He participated in many Asian competitions.
London 2012
He competed at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, United Kingdom, carrying the Palestinian flag. He arrived at the Games after qualifying in Doha , winning the shot put with a distance of 10.77 metres, just short of the Asian record of 11.34 metres. He continued his training in Qatar .
In the qualifying rounds in Dubai ( UAE ), she set a new world record in the Paralympic weight shot (11.40m) and won five gold medals.
He competed in the shot put, discus throw and javelin events. His best result was fourth place with a throw of 11.30 metres.
